On a hot Friday in July, the smell of fragrant lemongrass and sizzling lamb floated down from The Culpeper rooftop onto Commercial street. Was there a mix up in the order that week? No, chef Luke Larsson and his merry team had abandoned their Soho restaurant to commandeer The Culpeper's rooftop grill.
It's been a summer of sharing on The Culpeper rooftop. In June we kicked off the season by welcoming the first of four guest chefs from all over the UK to cook a one-night-only feast, and have been joyfully continuing ever since. This time, we thought we'd spice things up a bit. Enter Khao Bird.
Founded by chef owner Luke Larsson and restauranteur Mike Palmer, Khoa Bird started as a residency above the Globe Tavern in Borough and last year found its permanent home in Soho. Famed for its bold, complex and authentic Thai flavours, we knew their menu would work brilliantly on the rooftop grill, and they proved us right. From Laos style cucumber salad, smashed to order in Luke's vast pestle and mortar and fresh grilled bream, bathed in a rich orange curry, these bright flavours stole the show all weekend.
You can find the Khao Bird team at their usual home at 24 Brewer St in Soho for any cravings you might be having for Thai food.
