PEOPLE

Joining The Culpeper Family means being a part of something that values people; from our team to our guests, our growers to suppliers, and the communities that our buildings are a part of.

It’s important that we know we’re contributing to something, whether that’s in the day to day operations of working in our busy pubs and restaurants, or visiting our farm in Deptford and delivering the latest harvests to our kitchens.

We’re conscious of and passionate about where our produce comes from, how it’s been grown and harvested and how it impacts our environment. We’re committed to making better choices and using hospitality as a force for good.

We love be a part of those moments that you can only experience in hospitality; the first tomatoes of the season, that glass of pet nat in the sun on the rooftop, house made bread with lashings of butter.

Making sure our guests leave the pub they’ve chosen feeling a little bit happier than when they came in.

FOUNDING STORY

Gareth Roberts

Gareth is an Architect and Design Director for Roberts + Treguer, bringing ten years of experience transforming unusual and neglected spaces into inspirational environments to eat, drink, work and play. His approach focuses on developing a unique narrative for each site that draws on its own historical references but repositioned for the way we live today. The making of The Culpeper supported over 100 different bespoke craftsmen across the United Kingdom, from handmade glazed brick manufacturers in Stoke on Trent, to Portland Stone masons at their quarries in Dorset. Working with these craftsmen is an integral part of Gareth's Design approach, which focuses on natural materials and simple good unassuming quality.

Nicolas Treguer (Nico)

Hails from France, where he grew up eating what the French get as standard – good, wholesome, fresh, honest food grown close and eaten seasonally. After a stint in London's big corporate world, Nico decided to pursue his vision of transforming cities and creating green roofs as places to work, eat, drink and sleep.Whilst looking for rooftop spaces across London, and trying to convince landlords that it was a good use of space, Nico met Gareth. Gareth shared the vision and was equally mad about seeing spaces as what they could be, not what they are. The pub, then called The Princess Alice, was love at first sight for them both; with so much to do throughout and obviously a flat roof to conquer they undertook the project and opened The Culpeper in summer 2014.

Together, they believe that by transforming buildings, they remain useful and relevant for today's needs and that by renewing, remodeling and regenerating spaces, trailing plants, pouring local beers, sharing seasonal ingredients, a better quality of life can be created for all in cities.
